If you’ve always wanted to try out Champions Online, but didn’t want to pay to play, here’s your chance…Cryptic has announced that for it’s one year anniversary, anyone can check out the game, and all that they’ve worked on in the past year for free. There will be no need to register a key, provide a credit card, or even purchase the game. All you need to do is register a free account starting on August 27th here . Gameplay won’t be available until September 1st, but it will give you an opportunity to download the client and any necessary patches. Players will be able to play on the public servers, as opposed to just the demo servers that are normally available to check out the free trial.
There will also be an anniversary event being held in Millennium City from August 27th through September 7th. I guess it’s worth a look-see if you’ve got the time and are so inclined. I don’t know that I’ll take the time personally – I mean, I haven’t even touched LOTRO or Lego Beta Universe in weeks/months since we started playing World of Warcraft regularly again.
As I’ve mentioned previously, I just can’t get into super-hero games, even though I felt Champions had a lot of potential, enough for us to initially purchase a lifetime sub for a “beer and pretzels” game. It’s too bad things didn’t work out how we had hoped, and if I had more time and more energy, I’d check it out.
